We expect to hear back from Mardigrafe by tomorrow to see when they can fit it into their printing schedule and how much the final cost will be, but our goal is to have it ready for the Beltaine Fair at Le Melange Magique this weekend.

Stay tuned!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-85019600317550267932009-04-09T15:20:00.004-04:002009-04-09T15:29:13.932-04:00Update on WynterGreeneAs some of our loyal readers may have noticed, WynterGreene has not published an issue since Spring 2008. There are several reasons behind this, namely a shift in work schedules and commitment priorities of some of the key people involved in putting out WynterGreene, including members of the Board of Directors. Unfortunately, these kinds of stumbling blocks are almost to be expected in a volunteer-run organization, and being 100% volunteer-based makes us much more susceptible to them.

We're working on updating the "Science and Spirituality" issue that was scheduled to be released in June 2008, and was almost ready to go when things fell apart. We anticipate that it will be out in time for the Beltaine Fair in Montreal and Gaia Gathering in Vancouver.

Naturally any advertising contracts and subscriptions will be extended accordingly.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-11494860573239762162008-05-04T13:53:00.003-04:002008-05-05T14:09:44.685-04:00Citing Your SourcesOne of the things we like to see when feature articles are submitted to WynterGreene is in-text references and citations. In fact, if you are writing a feature article that incorporates ideas and research other than your own, we insist on it. When we go to print, the citations often get stripped out to save layout space (that is, unless they are citing a direct quote or someone's direct opinion), but we still require them for your initial submission.

Not sure what citing your references means? Or not sure when or how to do it? One of my favourite podcasts, Grammar Girl, recently did an episode on just this. It's focusing mainly on Internet sources, but that's okay. Similar principals apply to citing books, magazines, lectures, and even information received in workshops! The podcast also talks a little bit about how to assess a website's credibility, something that all of us should know how to do regardless of whether we are writers or readers.

You can access Grammar Girls Citing Podcasts and Websites episode, or a transcript of the episode, here .Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-70330010701758197392008-04-21T00:10:00.006-04:002008-04-21T00:21:38.955-04:00Spring 2008 Issue in Stores Our latest issue is back from the printers and currently being distributed to subscribers and distributors. Can science can be reconciled with contemporary Pagan religions. Can the pursuit of knowledge in areas of physics, chemistry, biology and medicine contribute to spiritual growth, or does it detract from the mystery and mysticism of religion?

To this end, we are inviting you to briefly send us (via email) your thoughts and beliefs on the subject. Can they be reconciled? How do you define science, religion, and magic? Where are they similar and where do they differ? Please try to keep the total length of your contributions to under 150 word and include a 5-10 word snapshot-biography of yourself (example: name/job/education and religious practice). We'll print as many of the contributions that we receive before April 28th as space will permit.

You can email us at: editor(at)wyntergreene(dot)ca.

Complete issue description and deadlines for full-length articles submissions can be found here. If you think you have an article idea for the issue, please query us with your idea to make sure we haven't had a similar submission or query already.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
Rosanne (Issue Editor) and Amanda (Managing Editor)Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-52546978847693122152008-03-12T12:09:00.006-04:002008-04-06T21:37:12.656-04:00Summer Theme: ScienceWell, the Spring issue is in at layout. That means that we're gearing up for summer--despite the feet of snow on the ground!

Our summer issue this year will carry the theme Science and Spirituality. We are thrilled to have Rosanne Seguin, one of WynterGreene Advisory Board members and a Montreal-Area research scientist, as Guest Editor for this issue. Here is the description of what she has in store for you:

Science and Spirituality: Are they irreconcilable? We are aware of the contributions science makes to fields of physics, chemistry, biology and medicine. Can the pursuit of knowledge in these areas enhance the seeking of truth and contribute to a spiritual awakening? Or does the scientific method preclude any recognition of that which cannot be measured and studied? As spiritual practitioners, do we risk impoverishing our spirituality if we chose to ignore science and its contributions? Through a dialogue with pagans who function in the realm of scientific study, we will attempt to address these questions.

If you'd like to contribute to this issue or offer a topic suggestion, please drop us a note. Deadline for submissions is April 15th, 2008.

Date limite des soumissions et publicités est le 15 avril 2008

Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-68718102644064186482008-02-08T11:41:00.000-05:002008-02-08T11:50:14.405-05:00Spring Issue Coming TogetherThe Spring issue, themed "Men's Mysteries" with content coordinated by Taras, is coming along nicely. Thank you Taras for conceptualising this issue and soliciting articles for what promises to be a fascinating and lively issue. And thank you to everyone who contributed articles to it.

In the issue, we will be looking at men's mysteries and male spirituality from several men's persepectives, including that of a gay man, as well as from a mother's perspective. We also highlight two men's circles, how they came into being and what role men's circles play in male spirituality, and specifically pagan spirituality.

We expect to be finished the copy gathering and editing process mid-month, after that the layout process will begin. Expect the issue to be in stores and mailboxes in early April, just in time for Spring!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-62252259925944653922008-01-10T23:44:00.000-05:002008-01-10T23:53:59.678-05:00Grants and SubsidiesOne of the constant projects on the to do list of WynterGreene's advisory board is to look into grants and subsidies, in particular the publication assistance programs.

But then we read stories about the hoops that Canadian magazines seem to have to jump through to get these subsidies, like this one on membership/subscriber requirements for associations publishing magazines (like us), and this one about what constitutes Canadian content, and we get very discouraged. Still we believe it is possible, we just need to find the time--and a volunteer--to check it all out and get the ball rolling...Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-2542087075844377012007-12-20T15:29:00.000-05:002008-01-07T15:54:16.877-05:00Winter 2008 Issue In StoresThe Winter issue of WynterGreene, exploring non-Wiccan Pagan traditions is now available! As well, the paper used for the cover (Mohawk) was produced in a factory that uses wind-generated electricity, and the paper used for the inside pages of the magazine (Cascades DP100) was produced using energy generated from biogas (basically recaptured gas from compost). Basically WynterGreene exchanges with other Pagan and alternative spirituality magazines. This means that we send them copies of WynterGreene and they send us copies of their publication(s). It's a way for magazine editors and publishers to see what each other are doing and to share ideas. It seemed a shame for all these wonderful magazines to languish on the personal bookshelves of our Managing Editor, so the MPRC offered to hold onto them for us and make them available to visitors for on-site consultation.

WynterGreene currently exchanges with:
The Blessed Bee
Sage Woman
PanGaia
New Witch
The PFPC newsletter

In the past we've exchanged with:
Witan / Wiccan Candles (ceased publishing)
Moonlit Muse (ceased publishing)
Paganet News (now online)

All of these are available in binders at the MPRC. If you don't see them, ask a volunteer. The binders are usually on the bookshelf nearest the volunteer desk.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-5964593614159281302007-08-15T13:11:00.000-04:002007-08-15T13:59:33.303-04:00Theme for Spring 2008Spring 2008: Men’s Mysteries
Guest Editor: Taras

Gender roles within North American society are changing, and these changes are reflected in NeoPaganism. Thank you to everyone who sent something in for this issue. The submissions that we've received have been sent out to copy editors for editing and to illustrators for artwork. We have a nice cross-section of articles for the issue, however once again we seem to be lacking in french content. When I realised that our french content would be lean, I tried to get permission to translate a section on prayer from a popular english book on Wicca, but I have yet to receive a response from the publishing house. I'm hoping an approval comes in soon, otherwise I'll have a hole that I'll be scambling to fill next week!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876343767441884731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22971015.post-89885390799658292482007-07-04T09:06:00.000-04:002007-07-04T09:10:32.365-04:00Winter 2008 Theme: Beyond WiccaWinter 2008: Beyond Wicca
Guest Editor: Ceri Young

Wicca is the branch of the NeoPagan tree that gets the most press, but it's far from being the tree itself. So what other traditions are out there? What common ground do all these paths share? How does the community work and how should it work? What's our history and what's our future? How does society as a whole view NeoPagans? Quel est notre histoire et quel est notre futur? Comment la société en général voit-elle les Néo-Païens?
